Duties and import taxes

When shipping across borders, customers may be required to pay additional duties or import taxes upon delivery. To improve the shopping experience and avoid disputes, you can configure how duties and taxes are handled for specific countries or regions.

Within each market, you can view and manage the duty and tax settings for all countries and regions. You can add, edit, enable, or disable configurations as needed.

View duties and import tax settings

  1. From your Genstore admin, go to Settings -> Markets.
  2. In the Markets overview page, click the market you want to manage.
  3. In the Duties and import taxes section, review the current settings for that market.
  4. Click Duties and import taxes to view applicable rates and calculation methods.
  5. Click Edit to update tax calculation methods, display names, and more.

Manually set duties and import taxes

If you want to charge customers for duties and import taxes at checkout, you can manually configure how these costs are calculated. Genstore supports multiple calculation methods to suit different regions and product types.

Steps

  1. In your Genstore admin, go to Settings -> Taxes and duties, and enable Tariff settings.
  2. Check My carrier supports prepaid tariffs to allow duty collection at checkout.
  3. Select the country or region you’re selling to and open its duty settings page.
  4. Choose a calculation method (e.g., CIF, FOB, or by weight) and enter the applicable duty rate.
  5. Set a default tax group or create custom tax groups for specific products. Click Save when done.

TIP

Before enabling prepaid duties, confirm that your carrier supports DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) to ensure compatibility with your shipping workflow and legal compliance.
